by Appalachian Sports Information September 23 - BOONE N.C.- Appalachian field hockey dropped a very close game to Davidson College, losing 3-2 at home. With this loss the Mountaineers fall to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in NorPac play, while the Wildcats improve to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the NorPac. The game was very competitive from the start, with Davidson midfielder Britti Himmelfarb scoring the first goal of the match in the eight minute mark. ASU responded quickly, when freshman back Caitlin Counts scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Nicole Morgan to tie the game at one apiece. In the 26th minute the Mountaineers got on the board again. Counts, notched her second goal of the game, hitting the ball into the cage off of teamate Alicia Larkins shot, to give Appalachian the 2-1 go ahead into halftime. The Wildcats would not back down so easily. In the beginning of the second period Davidson midfielder Sarah Addison scored to tie the game. Just ten minutes later Catherine Ransone also scored to give Davidson the 3-2 lead. With this lead, the Wildcats did not look back, and went ahead to win 3-2 over the Apps. Defensively,Denise Adams was strong in goal, garnering 14 saves for the day. Also, Mountaineer back Ashley Patterson recorded two defensive saves. Appalachian will return to Kidd Brewer Stadium for its third home match of the season, on Saturday September 29 as they take on the Radford Highlanders at 1 p.m. ![]() | STANDINGS
