by Appalachian Sports Information October 3 - WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Appalachian field hockey dropped a tough game to No. 4 Wake Forest, losing 5-0. With this loss the Mountaineers move to 2-9 on the season, while the Demon Deacons improve to 7-4. Wake Forest came out scoring early on, and never looked back. Forward Liz Frie was first on the board for the Demon Deacons, converting a goal off a penalty corner. Wake's 1-0 lead would soon increase, as less than a minute later Regina Shannon scored to give Wake Forest the early 2-0 go ahead. Wake would score once more before half to lead 3-0. The Demon Deacons came out strong again in the second half, notching two goals in the first three minutes to put the game away, and take home the 5-0 victory. Defensively, it was another big night for Appalachian goalkeeper Denise Adams. Adams recorded 17 saves on the evening, just two short of her season high. The Mountaineers look to bounce back from this loss as they continue their season on the road. ASU will head to Farmville, Va. to face Longwood on Saturday October 6 at Noon. ![]() | STANDINGS
