by Appalachian Sports Information October 12 - Richmond, Va.- ASU field hockey dropped a challenging game to Virginia Commonwealth on a chilly October evening falling 3-0. The Mountaineers move to 3-11 on the season, while VCU improves to 5-9 overall. The Rams took the early lead in the match, with Marle van Dessel scoring unassisted in the fifteenth minute. Appalachian struggled offensivley and were not able to launch any shots on goal during the first period of play. VCU took the 1-0 go-ahead into the half. Just eight minutes into the second period the Rams 1-0 lead increased as Merel Kroon launched a goal to give VCU its second score of the game. VCU would score once more in the 68th minute to take the 3-0 win over Appalachian. Defensively, Mountaineer goalkeeper Denise Adams played the entire match and recorded six saves for the Apps. ASU was outshot by VCU 17 to zero. The competition will not get any easier as Appalachian continues its road trip in Virginia, heading to Willamsburg to face non-conference foe William and Mary on Sunday October 14 at Noon. ![]() | STANDINGS
