Mountaineers Best Bloomsburg, 23-17; Fall To Buffalo, 19-16

Dec. 15, 2007 - BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Appalachian State wrestling squad dodged snowflakes, and captured their second win of the season on Saturday morning. ASU opened the day with a 23-17 victory over Bloomsburg, but fell in the second match of the day to Buffalo by a 19-16 margin.

Mountaineer seniors Scott Ervin and Terreyl Williams as well as freshman Austin Trotman won two matches in the tri-meet.

In the victory over Bloomsburg, senior Marcus Cox pinned his opponent to give Appalachian the early 9-5 lead. Ervin and freshman John Allen Griswold notched majority decision victories by 8-0 and 12-2 margins respectively.

In the loss to Buffalo, sophomore Corey Hulsey opened the match with a pin, followed by a majority decision from Williams. However, the Mountaineers could not hold on to the early 10-0 lead, and fell by a 19-16 margin.

Appalachian will now wait out the winter storm bearing down on the Northeast before departing for Reno, Nev. to compete in the Reno Tournament of Champions. The tournament takes place on Wednesday, December 19.
