by Appalachian Sports Information February 8, 2007 - Appalachian State men's basketball continues its three-game homestand Saturday afternoon when it plays host to The Citadel for a 3:30 p.m. game. Appalachian has won 16-straight games against The Citadel dating back to the 1995-96 season. ASU won the first meeting this season, 63-50, in Charleston. ASU fell to 14-8 overall and 9-4 in the SoCon with Thursday’s 68-63 loss to College of Charleston. The loss was just ASU’s second in the 2008 portion of the schedule. Donte Minter led ASU in the loss with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting with five blocks. Freshman Donald Sims added 13 points. The Mountaineers come into Saturday’s game as winners of eight of their last 10 outings. Minter leads ASU in scoring this season with 13.1 points and 6.2 rebounds on 56.9 percent shooting. Despite Thursday’s sub-par shooting night, the team is still making 47.4 percent of its shots from the field, the top mark in the league. The Citadel brings a 10-game losing streak to Boone and has yet to win a game in 2008. The squad is 5-16 overall and 0-12 in league play. The young Citadel roster features 13 freshmen. The Cadets are making 41.1 percent of their shots while opponents are shooting an even 50 percent from the field. Freshman Cameron Wells is the team’s top scorer and rebounder with 13.8 points and 4.3 boards per game. Following the contest with The Citadel, the Apps will remain on campus to face Wofford on Monday evening at 7 p.m. ![]() | STANDINGS
