by Appalachian Sports Information February 10, 2008 - WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Coming off a tough match against Gardner Webb, the Appalachian women's tennis posted a dominating performance against Winston Salem State, beating the Rams 7-0. Appalachian now improves to .500 on the season at a 2-2 mark, while the Rams drop to 0-6. Monica Tomas led the way for the Apps at the No.1 spot as she downed her oppponent in two sets, winning 6-1 and 6-1. At the No. 2 position, Amanda Cash was also victorious, winning in two sets. Lindsay King, Heather Prior, Elizabeth Holland and Caroline Mauch all picked up wins for Appalachian as well, to help the Mountaineers go undefeated in singles action on the day. In doubles play, the duo of Amanda Cash and Heather Prior defeated Shannon Loughnon and Laken Joyce at the No.1 spot, winning 8-4, while the other two sets of doubles partners, Holland/Tomas and Cook/King won as well. The Mountaineers will take an 11 day break, before returning to action on Friday February 22, as the Apps host their first home match of the season against Lees-McRae. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. |
