by Appalachian Sports Information February 19, 2008 - BOONE, N.C.- Coming off a nine-day break, the Appalachian men’s tennis squad resumes its 2008 season as the Mountaineers travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate. The Spartans currently post a 4-2 record overall and are on a three game winning streak, while Appalachian is 2-1. Appalachian has defeated both Liberty and Winston Salem State 7-0, while falling in its opening match of the 2008 season to South Carolina 6-1. The Mountaineers have been putting forth total team efforts, as junior transfer Bobby Lake has a 1-1 record on the season playing at the No.1 spot, while Ryan Brookshaw is also 1-1 at the No. 2 position. Other solid contributors for the Apps include David Doverspike, Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs. As for USC Upstate, they have faced six tough opponents so far this season, including three of Appalachian’s Southern Conference foes in Davidson, Georgia Southern and Wofford. The Spartans fell to Davidson in their opening match of the season 4-2, while handily defeating Georgia Southern and Wofford 6-1. The Mountaineers will return to action Tuesday February 26 as they travel to Boling Springs, N.C. to take on Gardner Webb. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. |
