by Appalachian Sports Information February 20, 2008 - SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Appalachian men’s tennis squad continued with its 2008 campaign as the Mountaineers faced a strong USC-Upstate squad. The Spartans proved to be a little too much for ASU, as the Apps fell 5-2. With the loss Appalachian now moves to 2-2 on the young season, while USC- Upstate improves to 5-2. Also with the win, the Spartans have now won four straight matches. At the No.1 spot junior Bobby Lake fell in two sets, losing to his opponent 6-2 and 6-3. Teammate Ryan Brookshaw was also unsuccessful as he lost at the No. 2 position, falling in three sets. Both Trent Constance and Lee Floyd defeated their opponents at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots respectively. Constance was able to pull off the win in two sets, winning 6-4 and 6-3, while Floyd also beat his opponent in two sets. In doubles action, the duo of Brookshaw/Floyd were the only Mountaineers able to grab a win, as they defeated their oppponents 8-6. Constance/Jacobs fell at the No.2 spot 8-5, while Doverspike/Lake lost at the No. 3 position 8-3. The Mountaineers return to action February 26 as they head to Boiling Springs, N.C. to face Gardner-Webb. |
