Women's Tennis Grabs Third Straight Win of Season, Beats Presbyterian 5-2

February 23, 2008 - CLINTON, S.C.- The Appalachian women’s tennis team continued its winning ways as the Mountaineers notched their third consecutive win of the 2008 season. ASU defeated Presbyterian College 5-2 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Apps improve their record to 4-2, while the Blue Hose fall to 3-4.

At the No.1 singles spot, Monica Tomas was victorious in three sets, winning 7-5, 2-6 and 10-3. Anja Gugger was not quite was lucky at the No.2 position, as she was defeated by a tough opponent, losing 6-2 and 7-5. At the No.3 spot, Amanda Cash defeated Megan Davis of Presbyterian 6-2 and 6-3, while Heather Prior, Lindsay King and Caroline Mauch all notched wins at the No.4, No.5 and No. 6 spots respectively.

In doubles play, the Mountaineers faced solid competition and were only able to pick up one win. The duo of Heather Prior and Monica Tomas grabbed a win at the No.2 spot, as they defeated their opponent 8-1.

The Apps return to action February 24 as they take on Mercer at Noon. The match is Appalachian's home-opener of the 2008 season and will be played on the ASU tennis courts above Kidd Brewer Stadium.
