Women's Tennis Falls to SoCon Foe Chattanooga, 5-2

March 8, 2008 - CHATTANOOGA, TENN.- The Appalachian State women's tennis team dropped a tough match to Southern Conference foe Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers fell to the Mocs 5-2. With the loss, ASU falls to 4-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, while Chattanooga improves to 5-5 and 1-2 in the SoCon.

The Apps were unable to pick up the crucial doubles point against Chattanooga, as only one doubles pair was victorious over their opponents. At the No.1 spot, the duo of Anja Gugger and Heather Prior lost 6-3, while teammates Monica Tomas and Mallory Cook fell 8-3. The team of Amanda Cash and Lindsay King were successful at the No. 3 position, winning 8-4.

Appalachian struggled in singles action as well, as freshmen Elizabeth Holland and Heather Prior were the only Mountaineers to win on the day in singles play.

Prior, who has been stellar in singles action this season, was victorious at the No.2 spot, easily winning 6-3 and 6-2. Holland also posted a strong performance on the afternoon, as she defeated Annie Green in three sets, winning 6-3, 5-7 and 1-0.

At the No.1 singles spot, junior Monica Tomas lost to Lindsey Ballard in two sets, falling 6-1 and 6-0.

Amanda Cash, Lindsay King and Mallory Cook were all unsuccessful against their opponents as well, as each lost in two sets.

The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday March 15, as they play their second home match of the season against the Davidson Wildcats. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
