by Appalachian Sports Information March 21, 2008 - BOONE, N.C.- The Appalachian women's tennis team is in the hunt for their first Southern Conference win this weekend, as the Mountaineers travel to Cullowhee, N.C. to face Western Carolina on Saturday March 22. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Apps post a 4-8 record on the season and are 0-5 in conference action. Most recently, Appalachian struggled against two solid conference teams in Georgia Southern and Elon. ASU fell to the Eagles 5-2 on Monday, and lost to the Phoenix 6-1 the following day. As for Western Carolina, the Catamounts hold a 3-10 record overall and are 0-3 in conference action. WCU has faced five of the same opponents as the Mountaineers, in Davidson, Georgia Southern, Gardner-Webb, Mercer and Presbyterian. Both teams have lost to Davidson, Georgia Southern, Gardner-Webb and Mercer, while ASU defeated Presbyterian 5-2 and the Catamounts fell to the Blue Hose 4-3. ASU will return to action on Tuesday March 25 as the Apps take on UNC Greensboro at the ASU tennis courts. The match is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. |
