Men's Tennis Wins Third Straight, Beats Chattanooga 5-2

March 28 - CHATTANOOGA, TENN.- The Appalachian State men's tennis team defeated Southern Conference foe Chattanooga Friday afternoon, as the Mountaineers downed the Mocs 5-2. With the win, ASU improves to 9-6 overall and 2-1 in conference action, while UTC drops to 10-6 on the season and 1-6 in SoCon play.

The Apps started the match off on a strong foot, as every Mountaineers picked up wins in doubles play.

At the No. 1 doubles spot, the duo of Bobby Lake and Trent Constance were victorious over their competition, winning 8-2. The team of Peter Jacobs and Lee Floyd were successful as well on the afternoon, decisively winning 8-3. Rounding out doubles action, David Doverspike and Ryan Brookshaw notched a win over Razvan Axente and Robert Diamond, beating them 8-5.

ASU was solid in singles competition as well, as four out of six Mountaineers were able to notch wins over their opponents.

At the No. 1 singles spot, Lake faced a challenging opponent in Peter Sauska and fell in three sets, losing 2-6, 6-3 and 6-0. Brookshaw played a tough opponent as well, as he lost in two sets, falling 7-5 and 6-4.

Constance was impressive at the No. 3 position, as he easily won 6-3 and 6-0, while Floyd was victorious as well, winning 7-5 and 6-4.

Both Jacobs and Doverspike finished the match with wins, as Jacobs narrowly won in three sets, 6-1, 4-6 and 6-1, and Doverspike defeated his opponent in two sets.

Appalachian returns to action Sunday March 30, as the Apps travel to Greenville, S.C. to face East Carolina. The match is set to begin at Noon.
