by Appalachian Sports Information April 16 - SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Appalachian State women's tennis team looks to start off the Southern Conference tournament on a winning note, as the Apps face familiar SoCon opponent Chattanooga, Thursday April 17. The match will be held at the Earle Tennis Center on The Citadel's campus, and is scheduled to begin 10 a.m. Appalachian holds a 7-12 record on the season, including a 1-8 mark in SoCon play, and is coming off a tough loss to non-conference competitor East Carolina, in which the Apps dropped a 7-0 decision. As for Chattanooga, the Mocs are 8-11 overall and 2-7 in the conference, having lost their last match of the regular season as well, as they fell to Georgia Southern 5-2. A season ago, ASU was able to hold off a pesky Chattanooga team, as Appalachian defeated the Mocs 4-3 in the first round of the 2007 tournament.
